S&W expands business tax practice with appointment of two new Partners

Melissa will be pivotal in contributing to the firm’s growth of its international tax and transactions offering to private capital clients as the firm strengthens its capabilities advising across Asian markets and cross border solutions. Paul will play a key role in compounding the firm’s growth in the research & development (R&D) sector with his deep expertise and experience in R&D tax incentives and wider innovation focused tax matters.

With more than 15 years of experience most recently as Senior Director at Alvarez Marsal and previously at Grant Thornton, Melissa brings extensive experience and deep technical knowledge in advising a broad range of private capital clients with a focus on Asian funds, corporates and family offices investing in the UK and Europe. 

Melissa is recognised by her clients as their go-to trusted adviser for end-to-end cross border multi-disciplinary solutions across their full investment lifecycle as she navigates them through complexity by offering practical and tailored solutions to add value and create further opportunity. Melissa was featured in the Accountancy Age 35 under 35 list, and she also takes an active roles in shaping the next generation and championing diversity.

With close to 15 years of experience in UK R&D tax, Paul brings deep technical expertise and a proven track record of delivering value across a diverse client base. Having held senior roles at leading professional services firms including Deloitte, BDO, and most recently, Alvarez & Marsal, Paul has advised a wide spectrum of businesses - from early-stage startups to multinational corporations - across multiple industries. 

Complementing this advisory background, Paul also offers valuable industry insight gained from his industry experience within the built environment sector. Known for a pragmatic, commercially focused approach, Paul has successfully supported companies in navigating complex R&D tax legislation while maximising innovation incentives and ensuring robust compliance.
