Paul is a Partner and specialises in advising corporate clients on the preparation of the UK R&D tax claims. Having practiced in the industry coupled with working at Deloitte, BDO and Alvarez & Marsal, Paul has been successful in supporting companies from start-ups to multinationals across various industry sectors, including built environment, manufacturing, automotive and tech.

Paul prides himself in building strong client relationships by partnering with them through the R&D claims process to ensure they have a transparent and pragmatic approach that aligns with their needs.

Experience

Paul is a Chartered Civil Engineer and has industry experience, at Ove Arup for over 6 years. Coupled with over a decade at Deloitte, BDO and Alvarez and Marsal, he has extensive experience in navigating complex organisations to deliver robust claims that will include areas that are generally overlooked.

Notable client work and achievements

Paul has a strong track record in delivering optimised, yet robust R&D claims where he has proactively engaged with HMRC to manage risks that may arise for large claims and to date, when he has defended his clients' claims they have been approved with no amendments.

After starting at a previous company, Paul assisted a construction firm who was in their third year of a R&D tax enquiry raised by HMRC that had experienced several rounds of correspondence. Although not having prepared the firm's R&D claims, Paul reviewed the claim extensively to agree the client's position could be defended. After providing clear guidance to the client on their next steps and liaising with the tax disputes team, he was able to work with HMRC and prepared a final response that led to the enquiry being closed with no amendments and a very happy client.
