Backing brilliance at ST100: Simmer Eats’ fast growth wins big

As part of S&W’s partnership with the Sunday Times 100 Awards, Terry Shephard took a ride with Outstanding Achievement Award winners Simmy and Jhai Dhillon, founders of Simmer Eats.
Simmer Eats began in the family kitchen in Hitchin, where Jhai’s academy football nutrition plan inspired a menu of flavour-packed, healthy meals cooked by their mum. What started as a side project at university has grown into a national brand, delivering thousands of meals across the UK.
The brothers bootstrapped everything, balancing studies, internships, football and full time jobs while investing their savings into launching their headquarters. From local bike deliveries on a £20 gumtree bike to a thriving business, their journey is rooted in purpose and seizing opportunities.
Originally called Rice n Spice, the rebrand to Simmer Eats reflects a bigger mission: helping people “simmer up” and enjoy life without compromising on health. The spark came when Simmy, during a stint at an investment bank, saw colleagues spending £20 on bland lunches. He knew his family’s recipes could offer better value and taste.
Watch the video to hear how two brothers turned a kitchen table idea into a nationwide movement—fuelled by family, flavour and hustle.
