The joint liquidators of The House of St Barnabas, Adam Stephens and Chris Allen of S&W Partners LLP, are delighted to announce a significant milestone in the charity’s journey. Following an extensive process, The Explorers Club (Soho) Ltd (“TEC(S)”) has been appointed as the new sole corporate trustee of The House of St Barnabas-In-Soho (“SBIS”).

This exciting development ensures the continued custodianship of the iconic listed building at 1 Greek Street, Soho (“the Property”).

TEC(S) will use the Property to advance SBIS’s charitable objectives (which are focused on those in need) in partnership with three leading charities - The King’s Trust, Crisis, and Centrepoint - each of which specialises in working with and supporting homeless people.

Together, these organisations will deliver impactful hospitality training, mentoring programmes, workshops, and specialist support to homeless beneficiaries, while also hosting fundraising events at the Property.

The Explorers Club, a global not-for-profit organisation dedicated to scientific research, exploration, and conservation, has established TEC(S) to take on this important role to advance SBIS's charitable objects, which will include the Property once again welcoming members through a private club experience, continuing a tradition of community and connection.

Adam Stephens, lead joint liquidator, commented: “This is a positive outcome for the charity and provides the opportunity for it to continue and recommence advancing its charitable objectives for its beneficiaries.”

Chris Allen, joint liquidator, commented: “We are delighted to have found a solution that will enable the Property to open its doors again and be used to advance SBIS’s charitable mission. We wish The Explorers Club and its partners every success as they embark on this exciting new chapter.”

VWV LLP acted as legal advisers to the joint liquidators, led by charity law & governance partner Con Alexander and insolvency & restructuring partner Ambuja Bose.

Allsop LLP acted as property agents for the joint liquidators, led by Commercial Investment partner Nick Pemberton.
