James Dowdall

James is an accomplished turnaround, transformation, and restructuring practitioner with over 15 years of experience and a track record of achieving positive results for clients and stakeholders.

James is a creative thinker with extensive experience working with management teams to raise finance, overcome operational issues and ultimately deliver business growth, including advising clients on debt restructuring options. He also has experience taking on senior board roles within regional and international businesses.

James previously worked at WayPoint Change Limited as a Partner, where he provided turnaround, restructuring and advisory solutions to clients across a broad range of sectors and requirements in the UK and across EMEA. He also worked at Barclays as a Vice President, where he was responsible for restructuring mid-sized corporate clients experiencing financial distress and advising them through pre-packs, moratoriums, administrations and Company Voluntary Arrangements (CVAs). James also held the roles of Deputy Sector Head in the Risk division at Santander as well as Global Relationship Director at HSBC.

Outside of his day job, James is also a guest lecturer at Imperial College on the topic of business turnaround and he acts as an expert banking witness, providing testimony in financial litigation cases. He is a full member of the Institute for Turnaround (IFT).

S&W team comment on latest company insolvencies data for construction industry

New data published today by the Insolvency Service shows that there were 367 construction insolvencies in February 2025, the highest they have been since June 2024. This is a 20% increase from January 2025 (306) and 3% increase from February 2024 (355).

The team complete a sale of Utopia Distribution Services Limited to DP World Logistics UK Limited

On 13 December 2024, Mark Supperstone and Ben Woodthorpe were appointed as joint administrators to Utopia Distribution Services Limited (UDS or the ‘Company’), a physical entertainment distributor. Immediately following the appointment, a sale of the business and assets was completed to DP World Logistics UK Limited (‘DP World’), the supply chain solutions provider.
