Joe specialises in advising HNW individuals and families with an international aspect to their tax affairs. This includes advising UK resident but non-UK domiciled individuals as well as international families investing into the UK.

He has particular experience in advising private equity executives and family offices on their personal holding structures taking into account their exposure to UK taxes (CGT and IHT).

Experience

Joe has over ten years of experience in advising international private clients and has helped some notable individuals and families navigate recent headline tax changes in the UK. This includes the changes to the taxation of non-UK domiciled individuals and non-resident trusts from April 2017 and the reform to the taxation of carried interest and returns from private equity funds from 2015 onwards.

He has advised a number of senior private equity executives, both whilst they remained affiliated with a particular house but also their own private offices following their retirement.

Notable client work and achievements

  • Named a top 35 under 35 private client advisor in 2020 by Eprivate client.
  • Advised a particular US citizen but UK resident private equity executive following his retirement on establishing a private investment office, structuring for future carried interest flows.
  • Has advised a number of £1bn + family offices on all aspects of UK taxation, including design of appropriate holding structures as well as significant investments into the UK covering various asset classes (including UK real estate and public market investments).
  • Has helped various private equity executives resolve complex enquires raised by HMRC into their UK tax affairs with positive outcomes.
