Experience

Phil specialises in delivering financial modelling and strategic advisory services to support transactions, financing, and long-term planning for infrastructure and energy clients through building & reviewing financial models. His work underpins critical decision-making across financial forecasting, corporate strategy, M&A, refinancing, and restructuring. Phil combines technical modelling expertise with deep sector knowledge to provide solutions that are robust, transparent, and commercially focused.

Phil also leads S&W’s infrastructure and energy sector capability and co-leads the Financial Modelling team. With over 30 years of experience, he brings a unique blend of skills from professional services, banking, and industry. His career includes:

  • 15 years delivering financial modelling services to infrastructure and corporate clients
  • 10 years in banking structuring funding solutions for infrastructure projects
  • 4 years as a corporate treasurer

Phil is a qualified corporate treasurer, holds a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering, and has further qualifications in corporate finance and business management. Prior to S&W, Phil was:

  • Partner at Grant Thornton
  • Director at a Big Four
  • Held senior roles at banking and financial institutions

  • Infrastructure fund modelling: Delivered six sector-specific models to support investment hypotheses across GDP, interest rates, and inflation sensitivities.
  • Renewable energy portfolio modelling: Built and reviewed models for battery storage, reserve power, and solar PV assets to support debt raising, valuation, and acquisitions.
  • Regulated Asset Base (RAB) modelling: Extensive experience in water and airport sectors, supporting pricing and investment decisions
  • Strategic planning and treasury analysis: Developed an investor dashboard and planning tool for an LSE-listed group to improve forecasting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Model rebuild for UK utility: Consolidated 36 complex interlinked models into a single robust and transparent model, freeing up management time and increasing investor confidence.
  • IPO support: Built a model for a major healthcare company’s LSE listing, incorporating downside scenarios to support directors’ working capital representations.
